Your Private Tour Guide will show you the way to the undergrounds, the excavations below the church exhibits the extensive evidence of early paleo-Christian buildings as well as the decorated crypt where Saint Cecilia’s body lies. The church was named after Cecilia, a woman who devoted herself to God. Even after being forcefully married she preserved herself and then converted her husband and his brother. They were able to witness the miracle of a descending angel after their baptism. Cecilia died due to wounds on her neck after being caught trying to bury her martyred husband. You have the amazing opportunity to witness the white marble sculpture of St Cecilia sculpted by Stefano Maderno, one of the most famous Baroque sculptures. The church was built over the ruins of Cecilia's house by Pope Paschal I. Walk through the corridors and see the remains of the ancient house and the tannery. Once arriving in the crypt you’ll be astonished by the marble columns and floors. Pay close attention to the gilded mosaics on the walls.
You will be astonished by the golden mosaics on the facade of Our Lady Basilica once arriving onto Piazza Di Santa Maria. Once inside you will be able to appreciate Domenichino painting the 'Assumption of the Virgin', created in 1616 which adorns the wooden ceiling.
